Biography Part 8
In June 1990 we moved to Lethbridge, the windy city of Alberta. We started our company, Metal Line Ltd. and it took us on a roller coaster ride. In 2004 our company took a great financial hit and we almost lost everything including our home. It took all my strength I possessed to get out of bed and face the days. Day by day it seemed to become worse. Donny, at that distressing time, when he was nineteen, was going to leave on his LDS mission to South Africa, when he found out he had cancer, and had to have surgery. Then at the same time Gerry was in a terrible accident which caused his kneecap to be pushed to the back of his leg. Thank goodness nothing happened to Jenny.
I could hardly face those days of turmoil. It was in December, during the Christmas season, 2004, that I decided it was time to pursue my dream and try my hand at writing. With all that had happened, I was in an extreme depression so I took a pad of paper and every night came home from work and wrote my story, never dreaming I would ever get it published. I originally wrote it, to only take my mind of our financial situation and my family’s pain. I never knew from day to day if I would have a house to come home too. Within two months, I finished my very first book, “A New Beginning” which was all written by hand. My Computer, at the time, was not working very well and we could not afford to get it fixed. My sister entered it into her computer for me. Right after that, I wrote book ll in six months. It was extremely hard to get it published in Canada so I went to a publishing house in Indiana in the United States and they published my books for me.
My youngest son Donny did recover from his surgery and was allowed to continue his mission and went to South Africa. With lots of Physiotherapy, Gerry was doing not to bad but his knee will always bother him for the rest of his life. It will be hard for him to play hockey again (the love of his life). And at the time of all my turmoil, Jenny was going to university, majoring in Biology, to become a Marine Biologist. She graduated in 2007with honors of Distinction. After Graduation she decided to change careers and so off she went to Prince Edward Island to become a veterinarian instead. Eventually, with a lot of hard work, we did keep our company and our home. It has been a struggle.
